Shop Fair Oaks First

The Fair Oaks Voice wants to encourage all Fair Oaks residents to Shop Fair Oaks First, to let the local businesses know what you want, and to write or call the Voice with your thoughts. We will try to keep you informed about the service and products available locally and work with local businesses to meet your needs.

Please pay close attention to the advertisers who make this publication possible. Let them know you saw their ad in the Voice.

Specifically this is a four point program:

1) Shop Fair Oaks first.

2) Tell them what you like.

3) Tell them what to improve.

4) Tell the Voice.

Easter Seal Program in Fair Oaks

The Easter Seal ACE-IT II program serves adults with developmental disabilities. The purpose of the program is to develop the functional skills, vocational aspirations, and community resources for each of our client's individual needs. The program is located in the Almond Orchard Shopping Center, at 8089 Madison Ave., Suite 1. We have selected this location because it allows us greater access to the community and the possibility to more easily become involved in integrated work settings.

The program provides some instruction within our office, however, our primary emphasis is on training in the community. Such community training occurs in small groups, based usually on instructor to client ratios of one-to-four. Our curriculum includes training in Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills, vocational skills and providing opportunities for greater access to local community resources and services. Our program is designed to address and meet the needs of each individual.

Currently, the clients at the ACE-IT II program are actively working as noontime aids at Coyle Avenue School, as morning prep workers at Steve's Place Pizza, as office aids at SMUD, and as volunteers at the Fair Oaks and Carmichael Libraries.

The Easter Seal ACE-IT II staff try very hard to provide our clients with the most individualized and up to date training. In order to move closer to achieving this goal, volunteer time, office equipment, and work experience opportunities for our clients are greatly appreciated. If there are any further questions concerning the ACE-IT II program, or if you are able to help in any of the above mentioned capacities, please contact Johanna Trueblood at 962-2766.

Dr. Horace Crandell Historical Note

As mention in the last issue of the Voice the eulogy given by Roy Edwards for Horace Crandell was an interesting and little known history of his life. That eulogy is now on the internet under the Chamber of Commerce page on the Fair Oaks Community Network at:
